I have two computers that both have onboard 10/100/1000 NICs. If I were to get this switch(BTW what do you think of that switch, it's cheap I know hehe): http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProd [...] 478&depa=1 would I need to get CAT6 cables to achieve the fastest transfer rates or would good CAT5e work just as well? Reason I ask is because I have a roll of like 900+ feet CAT5e cable that I know I will never use lol.
Unless your transfering huge files or streaming video between the computers you wont really need the 1000 speed. Go ahead and try the cat5e cable. It wont hurt to try.
