ok, Basically my uncle doesn't wanna listen to me and just buy a router and hook up his 2 pieces he insists on going with a wireless setup. Now keep in mind they are so Computer illiterate its not even funny, so any problems i will have to fix. What are disadvantages of going with wiresless over a hardwired setup, also keep in mind they are cheap, going with like the cheapest setup.. linksys 2,4ghz setup? the lowest bandwidth ..... anyway, can someone give me a few reasons so i can tell him to save money and to just go wired!. thanks guys

Wireless is the future, whether you like it or not. =)

I would strongly suggest buying a linksys product. You might as well buy an 802.11g router with WPA (Wireless Protected Access). 802.11b routers are on their way out.
You can save like $20 and get 802.11b, but hey... what's $20? For 5 times the bandwidth, you might as well get 802.11g. STAY AWAY FROM D-LINK products.

Yes, he could probably save a fortune by going wired. But like I said, the future is wireless. Methinks that CAT5 cable makers will make less money next year.

As far as wireless router management, it's no more difficult than a traditional router. However, there's more security concerns. If you'd like help securing the network (believe me, you'll want to), let me know and I'd be happy to help. Wireless security is very important. Just read this article and you'll know what I mean:

Yeah i know that Wireless is the future, but im saying as far as performance, and the distance of the computers how will the performance be?... 1 of the computer with wireless will be a floor above, if he buys the cheap 2.4ghz setup, how will performance be affected? also isn't wired alot cheaper? both pc's have built in NIC's and all they need is a 70$ 4port router, instead of like 70$ for each pci nic and then the router.. he'll save 140$... im trying to convince him to go wired, if he doesn't listen and just gets wireless... what different in setup? i mean with wired you just dial up into the router from a pc and then add the WAN and number of users, reboot and everything is basically setup... anything different with wireless?

Well they basically got wireless.... Any quick tips to set up a small wireless network... only 1 computer will be connected wireless. Not to sure on specific models yet, but so far from what i was told they bought a wireless Router with a 2.4ghz pci card. Now my cuzing is going to go wired to the router, but his brother in the room above his will be using wireless... What is different here in setup? as far as Router Settings or changes on Computers.
