Need help upgrading. Surprisingly this rig can't run battlefield 2142 at medium high settings with a resolution of 1440x900.

Pentium 4 630 3.0 ghz

1 GB ram

xfx 7900 gs overclocked to 600/800

250 GB Hard drive

just overclock my processor to 3.4 ghz and the framerate jumped only six frames. what's wrong? i think i need to upgrade my processor to dual-core but i can only get a pentium d not core duo because of motherboard incompatability. which pentium d shpould i get then?

built it six months ago and now running windows vista 64-bit

This is probably your problem. Check out the Toms article from a few weeks back on gaming performance under Vista.

Battlefield series all suffer in Windows Vista, especially 64-bit.

Other than that, add another gig of RAM, that'll help.

vista is not your problem i run vista and xp... this is coming from me, i run both operating systems, dont listen to people who depend on reviews, u will only see 1-5fps differnce in vista vs xp. no big deal. when i run a game in vista task manger shows 1.5gb ram in use, u only have 1gb ram under vistA?? get ur self at least 2gb ram total and ur system shall run smoothly. 1gb is way to little, ur system is overloaded, dont waste money on a pentium d, just upgrade ram, i repeat your ram is the problem.

yah and also maybe ur setting are on to high? maybe bf is maxen everything out? y not bump down to medium seeting or medium high? not full blast that might help tooo

Well i run XP and Vista too, and for all Battlefield games, it basically comes down to more RAM and better graphics card that makes the difference.

You don't notice "jumping" in Vista and 8800 for BF2 for a bit when a map first loads? Or that game load is slower too?

i dont play bf, but i play dark messiah might and magic, fear, oblivion, diablo 2, flight simulator x (the worst game i ever bought), and when i had my 6800gs i noticed hardly any diffenrence in any of the games compared to xp vs vista.
