ME will not install

please somebody help,i have been trying to fix my brothers comp which keeps locking out. I have formatted the harddrive and started to re-install windows me but once it reaches the end of the first screen a black box appears and the whole thing just freezes. I have tried a different hard drive and ram but nothing will work any suggestions apart from throughing it in a skip.

Win98SE or if his computer will support it, Win 2000 Pro or even XP.

have tried 98 does exactly the same thing get to setup screen and just locks out, anybody got any suggestions

Might be overheating... check the temps. Run Memtest to ensure the RAM is ok. Could even be a flaky power supply.

all done and dusted now it is working like a new one found out that the bios had got corrupted by something or someone thanks for the help
