Integrated SATA controllers - recognised by Windows?

Hi,

my current Mobo has PATA + SATA. but the SATA is not recognised during windows install have to press F6 and load drivers from floppy. It's a Silicon Image Sil 3112 SATA (+RAID) controller (mobo: Gigabyte 7VAXP ultra).

my question is, does Windows recognise the SATA controllers these days?

I'm thinking of building a new PC and want to make sure I understand some common issues with modern hardware. From my searching around the sort of mobo I'm after is a MSI P965 Platinum or similar.

FYI, Specs on new system:
C2D E6600, MSI P965 Plat, 6400 CL4 2GB DDR2 RAM, 8800 GTS 320MB GFX, Coolermaster Case, 500-600W quiet PSU, Noctua NU12F cooler.
