Hey, all. I have sort of a weird problem here that i'm hoping ya'll can help me with. Here's a little background on it:

I installed MemTest86 and Motherboard Monitor as I was planning on overclocking some time in the future. I decided to uninstall them, why, I don't know, I just do things like that sometimes. =D

Anyway... After I uninstalled those programs I checked to make sure nothing was going to run at startup (through a program called Startup that i'm sure ya'll are familiar with).

After that I decided to turn my computer off for a few hours as I don't reboot often and hadn't rebooted in about 2 weeks. When I went back to turn it on, it seemed to load up like normal but after the "Windows XP" loading screen it just went blank.

Normally it goes blank for a second, then my mouse cursor appears, then my desktop appears. Well my mouse cursor never appeared, nor did my desktop.

Restoring the system to a day earlier didn't work in fixing the problem. The only way I can get the system to boot is by selecting the "Boot from last known working configuration."

I really don't know what's going on, does anyone have any ideas of what I should check?

Thanks.

Don't know what the heck happened... I ran HijackThis, clicked off two or three things that didn't need to be there and now it loads up fine. Sorry for the useless post. :)

I have the same thing sometimes.
Even after booting with last known and shutting down it still doesnt boot correctly?
Take a look at msconfig, start->programs->startup folder and clean out anything you dont want.
Also might run a registry cleaner. I use regseeker. Free and never had a problem with it.
If all those fail you might try reinstalling the programs you uninstalled one at a time to see if that fixes the problem. If it does then do an uninstall of each with a reboot inbetween to see if that helps.

Its not useless. You found something that solved your problem. If you would, you might post back what it was you unchecked incase someone else has a problem similar to yours.

Honestly, I don't remember what it was that I unchecked. Genereally I run HijackThis and clear out everything I don't use consistantly (Such as BHO's and Extra Buttons and stuff like that).

I guess one of them was just messing it up, but honestly, I'm not sure which it was that solved the problem.
