x1950 pro vs 9800 pro worthwhile?

I started this topic since I dont want to hijack the other one in regard of the 9700.

Now, I'm really into looking for change for my comp. Like I said in the other topic I got a P4 2.6HT fsb 800mhz.

And I wanted to know if it would be worthwhile especially if we consider the fact that I have 17" LCD.

I dont think going higher than 1280x1024.
Can the x1950pro would allow me pretty much everything at 1024 (high to full quality)? Or will the CPU block that at 800x600?

And on 10, how worthwhile would be the change?
1 being useless and 10 perfect choice.

Thanks
:D

There is an article about a very similar thing to this on our very own THG!
Here it is! Its an article that uses an Athlon XP 2500+, which is probably not all that far off the performance of your system. They also include a Radeon 9700 Pro, which again, is slightly slower than your card. This way you can get an idea of what sort of gains you would get.

as i said in the other topic

"trizomik

your psu should be fine, however your cpu will bottleneck the card by a pretty large amount. Depending on the res you plan to game at, you may just be better off with a 7600GT.

so your gonna have to decide if you want to spend that extra bit for a x1950 pro and not make full use of it at places. It will definitely give you a big boost compared with ur current system, but perhaps not as much as you would want it to."

as for how worthwhile it will be: id say a 7.5, cause you can save your self some money and go for the 7600GT which performs fairly similar in most cases (except in oblivion and need for speed) because of a system bottleneck. However the x1950 pro will allow you to notch up the AA and AF in game without a major hit, unlike the 7600GT.

So, if you plan to upgrade your entire system in the very near future, i would personally go for the 7600GT.

if your gonna keep your current rig for another year or more...then a x1950 pro may just give you enough boost to keep you going.

Thanks for the Reply blade85.

Now, what I'm wondering is with all stuff I have in my rig, if I'll have enough of 480Watt. (Antec trueblue 480)

2 SATA seagate 80gb
1 sound blaster
1 9800 pro (or x1950 pro)
2x 1gb kingston
1 p4 2.6HT fsb800
1 DVD-Rom
1 floppy
1 Intel Desktop Board D875PBZ

And for an answer : Yes I'll keep this rig for another year.

yeah 480 is fine

im running mine with a 380

E6600
x1950 pro
2x 1gig ram
250gb hdd
2dvdrw
1floppy (dunno why i still keep this thing)
mobo+peripherals
revoltec fan controller (with lights)
5 case fans (3 with lights)

i jsut got a radeon x1650xt 512mb for my system, running on a thermaltake 420w psu. works great, all my games, highest settings, most i can even useAA on. i upgraded from my radeon 9600xt. i don't think the 1900 will be worthwhile considering your CPU, i'd go with a 1650 series card. i have an athlon xp2800+ and i overclocked it a bit to 2200MHz to get my good settings. The more i overclock it, the faster my games run (at least for now, then i can overclock my gpu). but i'd say its worth it, as long as you don't pay higher than 2xx$

Yea, the X1950Pro will be a night and day difference.

Worth the upgrade.

The sad thing of this is that I'm from Canada. Buying stuff in US makes deal pretty much useless, not always tho.

But now that I'm reading more about it , which of those x1950pro would be a good thing? What I mean is, sapphire appears to have overheating issues. Is there any out there "troublefree"?

:p

depends on your luck really

i have the sapphire version, and it runs at about 45 on idle and at 75 when gaming on rainbow six vegas. I can barely hear the fan as it fluctuates according to the cooling required, so its never blowing at full speed....unless u somehow manage to hit 90 degrees :p

The powercolor version uses a different cooler + some other makes use two slots so that it can blow the hot air out of the case rather than leave it in like single slot coolers (eg. sapphire, powercolor).

heck i love my sapphire one, its amazingly quite (fan at 40% -50% majority of the time and even in most games like UT2004, battlefield 2142).

And performance wise, I couldnt have expected any better from it.

You will enjoy your upgrade. I have a P4 3.0Ghz P4 (Northwood), and upgraded about a year ago from a 9800 pro to a 850XT PE. It made quite a bit of difference! It's worth it if you are not ready to build a whole new system.

Enjoy.

Well... wow!
I didn't have the chance to test it out very much yet, but its hell of a good thing right now.

There is something weird tho, I suspect my power supply not strong enough, but there is an "auto overclocker" type of thing within CCC. There, I tried to see up to what my system could handle this and as soon I get any thing higher than stock, my display start to flick. Blinking every seconds or so.

Anyhow, so far I'm happy with it.
