A little green man once told me....

Click customize and
Multiply your ram (I believe your pc should do this automatically
0.5 and 1.5 (1/2 of your ram for the first and 1 1/2 for the second)

So if you have 1 gig of ram

(mem * 0.5)
(mem * 1.5)
So...

512 and 1536 or whatever it is.

I dont know if this setting is for optimal performance. But I understand it to be the safe setting.

They advise to use at least amount of system RAMx1-2. With 2.5GB of

RAM, i think you can get away with 1536(1.5GB). The trick, is to set both

upper AND lower values the same. This keeps the swap file from getting

big, and also helps keep the swapfile from fragmenting the hard drive as

much. So try 1536, 1536. I don't play alot of BIG games, that use alot of

RAM, but i have 1GB of RAM, and i have mine set to 512,512..Never have

any problems, and rarely ever see HD light on. GL :)

i was looking threw Microsoft an found this. it says to put the minimum to 1.5 of your ram an the max. to 3 times. look at this artical an scroll down to were it says How to change the size of the virtual memory paging file. an the below it were it say Notes. it says. The recommended minimum size is equivalent to 1.5 times the RAM on your computer, and 3 times that figure for the maximum size.

Just because Microsoft advises something, doesn't mean it's the best

setting. They like to generalize, keep everybody at this rule, that way we

don't have anyone calling Support. The same-size swap file trick is

well-known, and has been around for years. I've used it for years, with

great results.

^^ Seconded ^^

Having your page/swap file's upper- and lower-limit the same stops it from having to constantly change the size it takes up on your disk, leading to less disk operation and also less fragmenting. No more need for pagefile defrags :)

I have 2GB of ram and use a 1GB pagefile, no problems for the last few years with that setting.
