Well, due to unfortunate circumstances (double-check ALL the tie-downs
next time you move a unit, boys and girls!), I need to replace the
mirror in the pristine Sony unit I picked up last night. The part is
available through Sony service, though the fragile nature and size
require ground transport, and the shipping costs are nearly as much as
the part.

I'd like to find a suitable replacement locally, if possible (plus,
I'm ANXIOUS to get this up and running, now!) Does anyone know the
dimensions of the mirror? I was going to call a few glass suppliers to
inquire, but don't know the size to request, past a basic estimation.
Also, does Sony use Mylar for their front-surface mirrors on this
unit?

Thanks for any help!

Check with SONY but I'll bet this is probably a "Front Surface" mirror
specifically designed for RPTV use. Installation of another type of mirror
will probably result in inferior picture reproduction. Any glass supply
house including some auto glass companies can cut a regular mirror for the
physical size required, however you will not be happy with the resulting
picture's quality.
