I am building a new system with an 8800gts and core 2 duo e6300. I can't decide what motherboard and memory to go with mainly because I don't know too much about how it will affect my system. I probably will do some overclocking in the future, but it is not a really high priority and i won't do SLI anytime in the near future, but if it isn't too much more expensive i might go for it anyways.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what I should get?

Intel boards don't overclock well. However, they are very stable. Choose a p965 board. Read through some of the reviews and se what other people are using. You should be able to find something to your financial liking.

Could also look at 650i boards as well. You need to figure out what features are important to you, e.g., if you have a camcorder or recording devices that use firewire, you'd want a board with firewire, are you going to seriously overclock, will you use SLI, what is your budget. Once you decide on the board decide on the brand of RAM, personally I like Kingston for less expensive and crucial of middling level, never had a problem with either. Once you decide on the mfg, go to their website, enter the board mfg and model number, and the site will tell you what RAM is compatible with the board.

Sounds like you want a gigabyte DS3. Decent MB, good O/Cing, good price. Newegg is shipping the newest rev. so no worries there. Some overclocking? I would get Value Ram DDR2-800. amore headroom on RAM speeds. You could live with 667 for this CPU, but if you want to upgrade, then you have to upgrade both.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions. I'd like to keep the motherboard below 150 and i'll want to order it from newegg like all my other stuff.

Does the p965 chipset perform better than the 650i in any ways. I read that the 650i was suppose to be good for overclocking and they support SLI. I was thinking about these 3 motherboards if I go with the 650i.

Personally, I like the MSI. 3 PCI slots, onboard firewire, and S/PDIF Optical Out for the audio. Plus, MSI has an update program that makes it easy to update BIOS and onboard drivers.

MSI P6N SLI-FI hands down. Here's why: The ASUS P5N-E SLI has NO southbridge heatsink & fan. When it's overclocked, the SB temp will be so high that the system will reboot/bsod. It's what I've been reading on o/c forums. However, P5N-E performs nearly as well as 680i for a little over a hundred bucks. Even though you can buy a SB cooler, that'll add to the already high price.

MSI P6N SLI-FI has a large decent northbridge & an ok southbridge HSF's. It'll help overclocking quite a lot.
