or maybe just grab more ram?
upgraded to this computer about 5 months ago, wondering if i should be looking at this new graphics card for future games? or should i wait it out?

Personally, I wouldn't upgrade at this point. You have a faster CPU than I, but my X1800XT is fairly comperable to your 7900GT. Better in Oblivion, same/worse in others. I still haven't ran into anything my card can't handle at decent IQ (Granted, I haven't picked up supreme commander and stalker yet).

To me, there's just not enough of a performance increse to justify the $259 outlay for the 8800GTS 320. That is, UNLESS you are confident that you can get a decent price for your 7900GT (or have another use for it).

Then again, our financial situations could differ at the moment. If you can afford it, and really want the 8800, then go for it. If its a choice though, I'd pick up 1gig of ram for the cheap rate they are at now (esp. if you're running 667, though 800 isn't much more), bank the remainder, and wait until there's a more significant increase in performance.

Just my $0.02

It depends.

What games you play? Are they running slow or good?

I would recommend holding off at least until 8900s and R600 drop.

1.what res do u play?
2.what games do u play?
i would not upgrade just cuz i have the money....sometimes patience is a virtue wait for the 8600,8900 and r600 to show up .you will have more performance/price choices
but this is what i would do
your choice may be different..

As the other friends said, you better hold of a little more...
I would recommend adding more memory.

so don't try Supreme Commander...the game really needs a DualCore CPU.
i uninstalled the game because i couldn't play under 10FPS any more
(the last time that i played with my brother on LAN (Medium size map & 2 enemy), my FPS dropped to 1~3FPS & my brother's system (P4 3GHz,7600GT) crashed.

thanks guyz, yeah i run it at a wide screen res if possible (1440x990)

only a few games slow, COD 2 at max/oblivion maxed outside(20ish FPS) and
/company of heroes maxed but didnt try that for long

im looking at games like crysis and next gen i suppose...

ive been looking around and it seems going from 1gig to 2gig of ram for games doesnt have much of an impact....anyone care to commenT? been very helpful so far thanks again :)

Games like Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, F.E.A.R, Test Drive Unlimited & Just Cause will run A LITTLE better with 2Gb memory.
if you want to use Windows Vista you SHOULD upgrade to 2Gb memory(or even 4Gb).

i think you should wait for ati to come out with its dx10 lineup as well, then you will be able to pick the best price/performance card for your needs, prices will probably drop a bit also since the 8900 series is also coming soon, it looks like the big winner in price/performance will be the 8900gs at around $250

the 8900 gs will perform similar to the 8800gts(which is supposed to drop in price)
a b U Graphics card

I enjoy my 7900GT but recommend and plan on waiting until the 8900's and R600's are released before jumping on the DX10 bandwagon. In the meantime tho, at least get yourself another 1GB of RAM.

Good luck!
