Is there a way to schedule specific tasks?

I am trying to get a program to open and run on its own but also function by itself on a schedule.
To make this clearer, I am trying to get a "Wav Editor/Recorder" program to open at a certain time of the day (I know task manager can do this) and also have it start the record button in order for me to record something streaming on the web. And then have the program stop recording.
Since I will be away from the computer I need it to do all these things without me there (open recorder program, start recording, stop recording).

Anyone know if there is a way to schedule specific tasks like this in XP?

Unless your Wave Editor application accepts command line parameters you'll have to use Task Scheduler in concert with a 'macro recorder' type program. I have succesfully done the same thing you want to do with AutoHotkey scripts set up as scheduled tasks. It's a bit on the geeky side to learn and use but well worth the effort.
