Connection speed slows while downloading HELP

My router is a Airlink 101 AR625W wireless b/g/n

wireless card is a desktop pci Buffalo 125 high speed card

i have the router set for b/g only since my pc card is only g.

i can connect excellent at 54mbps and go to websites. speakeasy.net/speedtest shows the download speed at over 4700kbps

when i go to use torrents my connection speed drops to 5.5 mbps.

anything i can do to fix this?

Not one for pointing out the obvious...but if your downloading, surely your connection is going to be slower.

I use Bitlord and i play COD2, sometimes when i leave bitlord on, i lag badly, so i switch it off to save on the resources.
