hi
i have a windows 2003 domain abc.com at windows 2000 domain functional level.the dns resides on the windows 2003 machine.
i want to add windows 2000 machine as a child domain say xyz.abc.com.
what r the necessary steps to be taken?
Starting steps, Windows 2000 should not be promoted to a domain level to start. Assign static info, IP, DNS, etc.
run DCPROMO, walk through the wizard and select Child Domain and follow the steps.
Since it's a mixed forest (2003 and 200) I can't tell you offhand if Trusts will automatically be built. 2003 to 2003 will build them automatically, 2000 to 2000 would not. Check that. Next, if you plan on using your 2k server for DNS, you'll want to set up DNS replication. You'll also want to configure DNS (if applicable).
