So my question is I am on my second build and I dont know what route to go. Do I get all the enthuasist hardawre and be ready for direct x 10 or not?

The R600, I hear, is going to be a power house but then again that could all just be hype.

So what route would you take? Go with Intel Extream Quad Core with 8800 GTX or wait it out?

Does anyone even know when Vista will be fully operational and when the games are going to start using DirectX10? Any time frame?

Thanks.

Right now, I'd say get a motherboard that will support quad core and 333 FSB cpus but only get a dual core (E6600 at $308 is a good buy).

The 8800GTX is a very good card. If you want to hedge your bet a little, you could get a 8800GTS 320MB (still a very good card) for now and upgrade later.

The R600 could be a powerhouse. I haven't bought an ATI video card in a long time (and don't even know anyone else who has) as the drivers were always complete crap (stability and performance problems). This may have changed with recent ATI cards or, if not, (hopefully) will change now that ATI = AMD.

Well not sure what your doing with your system or the timeline but Core2Quad is overkill for a gaming rig; I second E6600 & 8800GTX. I think AMD Agena AM2/AM2+ will be a real screamer and the ATI R600 will be average as far as waiting goes.

Well I am a huge gamer so the rig would be used for gaming.

Thanks for your imput.

I was thinking going with the X1950XTX just because I hear alot of good things about it and its much cheaper but then again I don't know the specs of the 8800 GTS.

I was going to try the quad core solution with AMD with hooking up two FX 72's but alot of people have been saying is over kill.

I want the Rig to atleast last two years just like my old rig. It contained an FX 57 and Dual 7800GTX's OC and it was a screamer but started to have problems at the end graphical wise.

Thanks again.

The 8800GTS is TOTL right now especially for under $300. QuadFX didn't work out because it required two chipsets running together which introduced too much latency.

If i was you, i will wait for amds new cpu and ati on may. AMD claims to recrown, and a pre R600 beat Nvidia 8800 gtx in all games in bench marks. Wait for the release. I dont think u want to spend a high end nvidia card, while the new ati and amds are the fastest hardware available. Click here for R600 vs 8800 gtx bench marks results

I'm waiting for R600 family simply because nVidia will most likely will have to release 8900 or 8800 Ultra to compete and prices of 8800 GTX/GTS will drop. If Inq to be believed, R600 will cost ~499$, which is cheaper and should be faster than GTX.

Only a month left till launch and several weeks till benchies, definately worth to wait.

And where do you get this launch info? It was supposed to launch Nov. 2006. Then Jan. 2007. Then end of Feb. 2007. Then 'sometime' Mar. 2007. Its Apr. 2007, no releases, no timeline... So maybe May.... 2008? Bah...

23rd this month will be disclosed all details about R600, and in may launched. Even though it was postponed several times, I doubt they do it again after big press release in 23rd.
