So ive been using my self built computer for a half a year now, gigabyte board, windows pro SP2 and a dell keyboard (shouldnt matter). The other week the usb keyboard stopped working for no reason, so I had to find a ps2 keyboard and log in and see what was wrong. I had a (!) on the usb driver so i uninstalled it, rebooted and the usb keyboard worked.
Today it happened again, but when i rebooted, the usb keyboard didnt work. So using my ps2 I log in, try to find a solution on the web and find some sort of registry edit. I save my registry and change it then reboot.
Now when i booted up, neither the usb or ps2 worked, so now im screwed. I cant just get into my system because I need to type a password (not on a network though). My usb mouse works fine, but the keyboard dont, so that registry definitly screwed something up.
So what do I do?
Is there an on screen keyboard i can somehow enable so I can put my password in?
I tried repairing windows, but the option doesnt appear, only format and partition options.
The "go to last working state" doesnt work.
I have the working registry on the hard drive.
I took out the hard drive and brought it to my familys computer, but it wont boot up, I guess because i built mine and im trying to use it on a dell?
I can access all the information on the hard drive by setting it up as a slave on this computer, and im staring at the working registry right now, is there a way i can install it, even though its on slave?
I really dont want to reformat, as ive just gotten it the way i like it.
There has got to be a way that I can put the working registry back. I maybe have to plan to call microsoft monday though
If there was a way to get past the initial log in, i would be fine!
Is there a way to log in via a dos prompt or something? like i said, enable an on-screen keyboard so I can use the mouse some how? is it possible to log in just by using the mouse?
Can I disable passwords somehow?
Is it possible to get into the control panel somehow of the slave drive?
PS. The keyboards work in the BIOS and everywhere else before the login screen!
