will not boot with cpu, gpu (on own set if wires). tried with one dimm of the mushkin, also 1 dimm of a ddr2-533 corsair value select. gpu fan runs, cpu fan runs, but no beeps, no video on lcd.

only non new items are existing hdd's, case, and power supply. would the adapters (20 pin - 24 pin, and 4 pin - 8 pin) be a solution, or should i purchase an all new psu?

I would try powering up with just the CPU and ram. Unplug everything else including the mouse and keyboard, and take the video card out. Make sure you unplug the power AND the data cables to the devices. You should be able to hear if it will post through, or at least get a few beeps along the way. If you get beeps (progress) then install one thing at a time between power ups to find which one is the culprit.

With fans on, your CPU is "probably" ok. A dead CPU equals no fans (usually).

up and running with different PSU. 400 antec truepower makes it all better. one question, CPU-Z is reporting a 6x multiplier and only 1600 Mhz for the e6600. the processor name in the window has 2.4 Ghz. also it reports a 266 Mhz frequency for the ram at 4-4-4-12 as well as a 400 mhz freq at 5-5-5-18? anyone know why it would report what seems to be false info?

i posted the same question about cpu-z in the cpu forum, and they had not only a different answer, but were not very friendly about the way they went about it. I mean, if answering a certain question is BELOW you, then don't post a reply to it (M25, logainofhades). I just wanted to figure out what was going on.
