I have a Venice 3200+ running stock at the moment.

I was dabbling in a bit of overclocking not long ago and had trouble getting ANY stable results at all.

Currently have my cpu set at about 1.4v manually, which i think is close to the recommended voltage for this cpu. However, when i put it on 'auto' in the bios it goes up to 1.6v. This is way too high, right? Why does it do this?

The reason i have it set manually now is because when i first got this pc the auto voltage was at around 1.5v, so i changed it to 1.4v. Now the auto voltage is higher, at 1.6v.

Flash your bios and re-install windows.Hopefully that will fix the issues you are having with it.

I have formatted between when i got the pc, cpu at 1.5v, and now. I haven't updated the bios, so i might try that.

I'm trying to possibly get a mild overclock happening, 2.2 to 2.4ghz. But any adjustments i make at 1.4v result in an instant restart in windows, or all values being reset in the bios.

Hello, i have the same MB, and same CPU. I hit 2400 Mhz with it rock stable. Set voltage to 1.4 manually. Don't put it on auto. Do not use the built in overclocking features of the MB cause they are inefficient.

Do the following:

1. Set the HTT at 4x (Very important to do this. Default is 5x).
2. Set DDR at 333 Mhz (This will actually set a multiplier to < 1 ratio).
3. Set PCI clock, and others to manually at default values.
4. Set Bus frequency to 240 Mhz. (DDR will work at 400 and CPU 2400 because of the x10 multiplier).

And voila! you have a free upgrade to 3800+

I had the same CPU and have the same(A8N5X, but mod to A8N-E) motherboard. The default voltage for your CPU is 1.45v, but it might be displayed in BIOS wrong. Use CPUz to see the real voltage.
If the voltage is higher than default, than:
1. DON"T Reinstall the OS!!!!!! That will not help you!!!!
2. Other(newer or older) BIOS software might solve the problem.
3. You mainboard is damaged, the VRM or the capacitors.

Ok. I will try the settings you gave me. First i would like to know if there is any possibility that i won't be able to start my system, to the bios at least, if i select these settings?

i have read that it is best to up the bus speed a little at a time as not all cpu's are the same, so i'll try that.

I will try to flash my bios with a newer one and see how it goes.

I hope my mobo isn't the problem. :(

I just tried adjusting some of the settings in the bios. I lowered the DDR speed to 333mhz, 4x HTT, CPU to 1.4v, kept pci-ex at 100mhz. I up'ed the fsb a bit and booted to windows. When i checked using CPUZ there was no overclock. Still at 2000mhz and fsb at 200mhz, no matter what fsb i chose.
However the ram speed was lowered, and always held the speed i selected in bios.

Whats goin on?
