Hi guys with the price cutz :D happening later this month i was thinking

That orginaly i was looking to get a 6600 as i didn't want to spend over 350$ for a processor.

Now with the 6700 predicted to fall to 316$ i was wondering if i should get that or would a 6600 be sufficent .

I mainly game and i also own a 8800 .

If i get the e6600 i would save a 100$ but that is not the priority the main thing is to get great performance .

Is there a lot of difference between the 2 cpu's.

What do you guys think , go e6700 or e6600 :? faster the better or it wont make that much difference :?

The 6700 is faster and if the price is in your range, buy it and then over clock it.You should be able to get 3.4ghz+ out of it,and on air cooling at that.Goodluck.The 8800 can become cpu bound. It's recommended to get the fastest cpu you can for the most performance from your video card.

I disagree. If you plan on overclocking, you might as well get the E6600(and save some money)....it'll clock as high as the E6700. If you aren't going to overclock, then the E6700 will perform slightly better. GL :)

So finally if its in my range then get the 6700 right :?:

Well yes technically i was just looking for some support ..hehehe

Glad i ain't married yet though , otherwise it would be a different story altogether ; God bless bachelor hood , untidy rooms and beer parties rock on

I have decided guys that i am going the whole way getting a E6700 , i mean its only fair towards my 8800.

Why not wait until the price drop (april 22nd I think, look on google) and get a Q6600 for the same sort of price as a E6700?

That way you would have four cores, and if you overclock a little, say 266mhz, you have a quad core at the same speed as a E6700.

I would simply get the E6600 and overclock it since gaming is your primary concern.

The E6700 can technically overclock higher than the E6600, but when you start hitting the 3.5GHz range then you should consider watercooling. If you're goona do watercooling, then that'll probably add on at least another $150.

From what I've read, generally speaking, watercooling solutions that cost less than $150 are no better than a very good air cooler that runs around $60 - $75.

What I recommend is this:
When the price cuts happen this month, get either a E4300 or E6320 or E6420. Overclock it to 3.0 Ghz +, and wait till the price cuts happen in August. When that happens, get you a good Quad core or a 1333 FSB CPU and be happy. A E4300 or E6320/E6420 overclocked will be sufficient enough for a 8800 card. It also gives you the opportunity to switch to AMD if they release a processor that is has a better performance to price ratio than Intel. Just my thoughts.

The big price drop for the Q6600 is not scheduled until Q3...

I recommend 6600 and OC... but it is your money and the 6700 will be faster out of the box.
