The system is newly build. The bios loads just fine and all the hardware is detected. I have the CD as the first device on the boot sequence.

When I load the installation disk it spins and then the message "insert boot media" is repeated forever

The only solution I can see is the take my old HDD which is IDE and boot using it, and then install XP to the new HDD. And I dont know if that would even work. Any help you can give would help.

If I remember correctly, you have to press the F12 key when booting. A friend of mine ran into a similar problem. It sould be another F key not certain

Either the cd is not bootable or the bios isnt holding. Try pressing F2 at the first bios screen. This works for many oems - Dell, HP, etc. Homebuilds I am not sure of.
Double check the bios and you might even set the cd-rom as the only boot device if needed. Just remember youll need to set the hard drive as first boot once windows is loaded.

Some require that you press the DEL key

It's best to look on the manufacturer's site for which key to hold; OR for OEM machine look in the motherboard book.

Is it SP2?

you might need a floppy to load the SATA drivers?
Internet > Hard Drive manufacturer > SATA driver for your hard drive
