Right, I've a Belkin wireless router and NIC card that have been giving no trouble until I recently shafted my computer (don't ask) and ended up having to redo my xp installation. The problem I now have is that whenever I start my computer the wireless connection doesn't come up. It's manually configured, just like before, and the wireless zero configuration service is disabled becasue I can't be doing with the ping spikes it creates. In no particular order, this is what I've discovered:
If I use the WZC service instead of the Belkin software the connection works fine (apart from the stupid ping spikes).
If I don't use any encryption at all the connection comes up fine.
With the existing setup, 'repairing' the connection causes it to spring into life and it works perfectly until the computer is powered off. Yes, this means the first thing I have to do EVERY time I turn the blasted PC on is to repair the connection.
After startup I get a periodic NDIS NOT SUPPORT message flashed up in various fields of the Belkin wireless utilty. Each time I get one I also get an entry in the Event Viewer (4201 I think?) saying Belkin adapter miniport successfully connected and initialised normal operation etc etc. You know the one.
Before repairing it, selecting the wireless connection from the 'Network Connections' window gives some interesting details in the pane on the left, one of which states that encryption is disabled (It's not!)
The Belkin wireless utility is showing Rx and Tx packets between it and the router even when the connection doesn't work immediately after startup.
Drivers/firmware are all the latest and are the same as I was using before. And just to stress the point, once it HAS connected, the wireless connection is fine. The above points makes me think there's some sort of encryption issue but I just don't know my network stuff well enough to fix this one.
Any comments or suggestions would be hugely appreciated!
