MY BURNER IS A SAMSUNG SH-182M WITH AN ADD ON SATA BRIDGE BOARD WITH JMICRON 230330 CHIP.PLUGGED IN INTEL RAID PORT.

HERE IS THE BUG!!!
COLD BOOT NO DVD IN DVD TRAY, SYSTEM WILL GO BLACK SCREEN NO OS PRESENT!!!!

ON CLOSE LOOK, IT WILL TAKE 1.5 MINUTES FOR BIOS TO BOOT SYSTEM. THE INTEL SATA DEVICES WILL DISAPPEAR FROM CONFIGURATION SCREEN. HENCE NO SATA HDD DRIVES. NO OS'S!!!
THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT HAPPENING!!!!
SAMSUNG SUPPORT SAYS:I DON'T KNOW!!!!
INTEL DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS DVD CONFIGURATION!!!
WHAT IS HAPPENING, THE INTEL BIOS IS GOING THOUGH AN ADDRESS STORM TRYING TO FIND DEVICE DRIVER FOR SAMSUNG DVD. WITH NO DVD DISK IN TRAY,DVD IS NOT READY!! NO DRIVER!
WORK AROUND: PUT OS INSTALL DISK IN TRAY THE BIOS INSTALLS DEVICE DRIVER . SYSTEM DISPLAYS BOOT CD/DVD, IT FOUND DVD!!!
THIS IS A TOTAL PAIN!!!

MAYBE ITS THE SATA BRIDGE BOARD WITH JMICRON 230330 CHIP.

TRY A USB TO IDE BRIDGE INSTEAD OR STEAL ANOTHER CD/DVD ROM

ALSO TURN OFF ANY FAN CONTROL IN THE BIOS. MY P5W TAKES LONGER TO LOAD IF FAN CONTROL IS ON. I KNOW ITS A DIFFERENT BOARD BUT IT NEVER HURTS TO TRY. ALSO RESET YOUR BIOS TO DEFAULTS

AND LAST OF ALL

DON'T TYPE IN ALL CAPS ITS HARD TO READ!!!!!

After spending what, $1500(?) on the motherboard, CPU, RAM, HDs, video, etc., and suffering from the anomolies of the cheapest single component in your system, my advice is to sell that SH-182M on eBay, throw the SATA bridge board into the trash, and buy yourself an SH-S183L for another $40 or so.

Or if you don't mind bearing the humiliation of using that "old skool" IDE cable, toss the SATA bridge board in the trash and hook up your existing burner to that single IDE port on the XBX2. But I'm assuming the bridge board approach was an attempt to avoid the IDE cable.

Good luck,
