So the question is how do these cards stand against each other in the agp versions ill recap system also

Usually the 7900GS is more money than the X1950Pro and that's usually the reason for going with it. However, the card you chose is more money than this X1950Pro in which case I would go with the X1950Pro, but there's also this XFX 7900GS XXX that's cheaper than both of the previous cards listed.

Generally the X1950Pro outperforms the 7900GS at stock speeds. The 7900GS is supposed to be an impressive overclocker, so if you plan to overclock the card you may want to go that route. If you don't plan to overclock, then I'd stick with the X1950Pro.

There's also this 512MB X1950Pro for a few bucks more than the 256MB version.

I'll agree with anoobis, the X1950 pro is a overall a bit above a 7900GS at stock speeds. It will win games like Oblviion and need for Speed Carbon by alot, but then lose at most OGL games. The 7900GS is a btter overclocker.

I'd pay attention to clock speeds as sometimes AGP versions of cards are clocked lower than PCI-e. There is also a 7950GT AGP now, as well as the X1950XT AGP which should hold the crown for best AGP.

So in general, X1950XT>7950GT>X1950 pro>7900GS, but your specific games could make that order change.

Thanks pauldh do you know if there is a card that performs in between the x1950 pro and a x1650 as the latter looked good but performs porley on the vga charts.

Again you're not being specific. Are you talking about an X1650Pro or an X1650XT? If you're talking about an X1650Pro, then a 7600GT would be a good choice above the X1650Pro. The X1650XT performs slightly better than the 7600GT depending on the game. After that it goes into an X1800GTO<X1900GT</=7900GS<X1950Pro. The X1800GTO performs closely with the 7600GT and X1650XT, probably a bit better. It's also a stellar overclocker. The X1900GT is a decent card and it's a bit older so you might be able to find a good deal on one.

You may want to look at www.overclockers.co.uk as they have a decent selection and pricing. There's a couple sub-£100 7900GSs there as well as a 7900GT for £129.24 inc VAT which should outperform the 7900GS IIRC. I don't know how the 7900GT fares against the X1950Pro, my guess is neck and neck.
