Upgrading from 3000+ to X2 3800+. Anybody have input on which core to get: Toledo or Manchester? Will OC as much as possible.
Denmark I'd say; the best 939 core for OC-ing is that of the Opterons. Get an Opty 170 or 175 and you're done.
While Manchester and Toledo have no diferences at all between them in OC-ing headroom. The only difference is that Toledo X2s with 2x512 L2 are original Toledo X2s (2x1024K L2) with half of the cache disabled while the Manchester core is a native 2x512K L2 die, so it's area is smaller than a Toledo one but that's all.
If you want performance (2.7-2.8GHz for an Opty), you have to spend a little more but if you just want something cheap (2.4-2.5GHz for a X2 3800+) you don't have much to look up because most of them will do it.
The Manchester runs cooler than the Toledo. Both can OC well and both are solid dual core processors though with little immediate difference apaer from the cache size from the full 1MB per core, which doesn't have too much bearing on any K8 CPU anyway.
But if you can afford an Opty I would go for the 165 or 170 (both can OC well)
