Has anyone else here had problems with the Sylvania (the cheap box Sears
sold a while back) STB? My box can't keep up with the video stream of a
720p HD broadcast. It keeps freezing up and restarting, only to fall out of
sync with the audio. When the video buffer gets too full (video lagging 1
sec behind audio) it blanks out and comes back in sync (as if you just tuned
in). It's annoying and I've gotten nothing but excuses from Funai (the
company that now owns Sylvania).

I only paid $96 for it and I am getting good use out of it

1) 1080 has no problems whatsoever and the S-Video pumps out a wideband
chroma signal (very sharp colors)

2) It supplies a stable NTSC signal to my SVHS deck (JVC) even with horribly
weak stations. The internal JVC tuner can't record weak analog in SVHS very
well (there is a horizontal distortion halfway in the picture).

3) Digital-only channels and widescreen viewing are a bonus.

To end my rant it's a good box for the price, as long as I don't want to
watch 720p.

There are several threads about this STB over at AVSForum.
Do a search for the model number at:

Thanks for the thread, lots of good information.

I'm starting to think it may be a signal issue as I'm located in Dover
Delaware and it happens on Baltimore ABC & FOX as well as Philly ABC (no
Philly FOX as 42 is also used for MPT digital) and DC FOX. I get no
problems with DC's ABC (WJLA 7) and I don't believe they're converting ABC's
720 to 1080. It may be that 720p is more demanding than 1080i and that my
experience with ABC-DC shows this (though I wish they (wjla) answered me).

P.S.: DC only comes in occasionally where Baltimore & Philly are consistent
using an attic mount RatShack Mini-state flying saucer looking antenna.

Thanks dude ;-)

FWIW, that's an omnidirectional antenna, and about the *worst* type of
antenna you can use for DTV.
