I read the posts, and frankly, if the debate was debatable, I would get involved.

I cannot do anything about nonsensical arguments:

-THG has sold out. In case you missed reality, we live in a capitalist society where we all do business, pay taxes, and have to do commerce like, shopping for groceries. If it is so bad to be in a capitalist society trying living in one that is not, and send me a report from the Gulag.

-THG is not what it used to be. Thank goodness. I see the ol' hardware sites. and they ain't what they used to be, but in case you missed reality again, neither is the hardware world.

-THG is not as good as <fill in the blank>. We are the punching bag because, we ain't pretending to be anything that we are not. There are no enthusiast sites, or operations left out there. There are no champions of the little man, or trusted companions. We are, at least, aware that we need to have professionalism and integrity, and if you say otherwise, you have no idea what you are talking about. Since Google AdSense came along, I have not seen a site that is not a sell out or has that escaped everyone's attention?

Change sucks for those who choose to avoid it. For everyone else, it is inevitable, and in most cases, desirable. If you want a nice customer service message then, yes, go to CNET. Here, don't whine. Give me something I can really get my teeth into.

That would account for the recent decline in article quality/content.
But it still does not explain the trend over the past couple of years of suckage...

Apparently, like CaptRobertApril Was Raving and Ranting about, THG/Toms will be about 1 week to 1 Month Late on updating us with that news on Toms hardware Sale. I don't know why but Inquirer has been getting better Updates and more accurate news(lately)about the world than The world knows itself.

Reply to YO_KID37

Toms must have been Buffed and Polished and presented to The Inquirer by BaronMartix :D , They probably promised him some big position or at least Financial Benefit :P

If Tom's is bought out by The Inquirer, Tomshardware.com's Reputation has just gone down the Toilet.. I mean come on Who hasn't heard of the reputation of The Inquirer's Forums.. Bunch of racists and Stupid/Ignorant Hacks

I don't think The Inquirer could buy us out, being owned by VNU... But anyways, the reason why it hasn't been reported, I believe, is that there were only rumours - and some wild ones at that - and Omid Rahmat only confirmed the buyout one to put the rest to bed. My understanding is that this has become public sooner than we had hoped... But that's the nature of the journalism game.

Reply to Aaron McKenna

Public...?. That's next to impossible to believe, I have a strong feeling AnandTech is Doing a AMD/ATI style merger.. But one of my friends just saw the article and was on the Intel Site a few days ago. and saw the "Tomshardware.com" Comment on the Core 2 Duo Banner on their Processors section and believes that Intel has Bought us  .. new Title*

Tom's Hardware Sold...and the Buyer is Intel 8O

I agree. The computer hardware news seemes to have fallen off a lot since I first started reading Tom's articles, and that was quite a while before I joined in the Forums. Now I get most of my hardware news either from the forums or eslewhere.

Reply to Sailer

Lol. Well you can kiss this site good-bye. No, really.

From Theinquirer article,
"We believe that there are some very exciting times ahead for the company".

Yeah right. Whatever. That's a polished turd of a line which means "Hey I've made my fortune, lets see what you boys can do with it. Good luck. I'll be on my yacht in Monte Carlo Bay if you need me."

If hope this is for the best or I won't come here anymore, ever! :(

Reply to chuckshissle

man.. i just hope that TG forum will still be here after the buyout... this is where i learned most of the stuff since the debut of Core 2.

heck i still remember i was arguing like crazy for X2s.. and being called an AMD fanboy now and then...

anyone still remembers MMM, 9-inch, rettihsllub.... man those were some hilarious times.. :P

just curious... if TG Forumz really go down... where will everyone go?

Reply to viperabyss

That's a problem, where to go next. Yeah, I remember MMM and 9-Inch and a couple others who got banned. Funny thing, even at their worst, I managed to learn a few things from them, even if it was what not to do.

And to think, I just made it to "Honorary Poster", and now I might have to start all over from the bottom somewhere else.

Reply to Sailer

Omid has just read our open letter and Hopefully this Thread too.
We have come to learn that

Omid needed or needs money to buy grocery

You could get started now. Come join the real laughing stock of the tech sites, Extremetech.com. No real articles at all, just weekly reviews of a mouse, keyboard, Linux flavor, and some op-ed piece. Trust me, join that and you'll seem like a genius in the new forums.

Reply to 4745454b

Maybe so, but I like a forum where I learn things and can have intelligent discussions, besides craking the odd joke here and there. Any place that though I was a genius would be sadly lacking.

Reply to Sailer

i know that THG getting sold wont change a lot, but it kind of makes me mad for some reason... for example, when Viacom bought gametrailers.com i stopped going just because it took away from when the company was originally made...

*or perhaps im just too attached to old things..

*btw for people worried about the site going away... that clearly will not happen since whoever bought THG bought THG... and so they will try to make it better, not destroy the site... only a crazy rich bastard with a long standing vendetta against this site would buy the company then in turn destroy it

Reply to Maverick7

Perhaps. There are about 4 of us there who can carry on a worthy conversation. Probably about 90% of the posts are from one timers who pop up with a "how do I do X" question, and you never hear from them again. Just about the only thing you can do there is crack the joke, as Jim has that forum locked down pretty tight. You might be able to get away with a mild one in the "other" section, but we are instructed to flame in PM, never the forum. As I've mentioned before, I happen to like flaming in private, so this doesn't bother me.

As far as learning something, unless I or Grumpy can teach it to you, your probably out of luck.

Your poll is misleading. Do you really think that a change in "owners" will result in the forums being closed? Why do you have to go anywhere? Of course, if you want to forum shop, knock yourself out.

You probably ought to edit the options and include: "I'm not going anywhere!"

Reply to Jake_Barnes

If something happens to the forums I'll probably go the Xtremesystems or the OC Forums. I already have an account in both.

I want to add

I'm not going anywhere!(Tom's has Power Over my soul)

I Voted For AnandTech.. Is that why I'm locked out of changing Option in it?

I agree. I doubt the forums will go anywhere. What would I do without Baron and Jumping Jack? My life would END!

LOL... definitely..

but seriously, i would recommend everyone go read the post by Omid (saintbab)...

after reading that, you'll feel that selling off THG maybe is a better idea...

Reply to viperabyss

Poll's are designed so that, once a single vote has been cast, no edits are permitted ... it's to keep someone from editing their poll results to falsely "make a point".

Moderators can edit polls sometimes (if there are no current bugs).

Reply to Jake_Barnes

Okay, Thanks for the telling. I guess The options are for where, beside's Toms hardware you would Migrate to.
I added a Disclaimer, Advising against voting if What your looking for isn't there.

I have been unhappy with the changes I have seen in the recent months.

I can only hope that the sale of THG will net an improvement.

If it does not I will no long visit and no longer recommend them.

I remember the days, not that long ago, when THG would publish something and the industry would sit up and take notice.

Yet, I can not completely blame THG, the entire computer review industry has slumped.

"The view never changes unless you are the lead dog."

THG started to slip from the lead dog a little more than a year ago into a "keep up" site and now has fallen bellow even that.

I remember when I first heard about THG, someone recommended a motherboard to me because THG said it was a good one.

The motherboard recommendation turned out to be good which got me to read the site and I kept reading THG for years after that.

What kept me reading was because the quality of THG was so far beyond any other hardware site or magazine I have read.(deliberately switched the tense of my verbs for emphasis)

I will admit that some of the recent non-computer articles are interesting* when I am not in the mood to read about computers specifically and that I appreciate the occasional op-ed piece.

However, I stress that my pallet for the previously mentioned is severally limited.

*Even if they are sometimes baseless piles of excrement.)
