Hi, I want to get a CF card for my HX4700. I'm a bit of a newbie to this and
I'm not too sure what to go for as one or two I have seen say you need a
jacket to use with them.
All I want is a 512mb (I'll get something bigger when I can afford it) card
that will fit straight into the PPC without any other accessory involved..
I would appreciate it if someone could tell me if the cards I have been
looking at on these links are suitable.
I got a Kingston and a Sandisk CF card. They're both supposed to be of
good quality. Both cards will do just fine in your hx4700 and you
won't need a jacket or something (who came up with that idea? ;-).
What you don't want to buy is a "superfast" CF card (Ultra II or
something similar). Unless you got a digital camera that can really
reach the maximum speed of those memory cards.

Why not ask expansys? All the products you mention are supplied by them.

Looking at the HX4700 manual, it says that it has a CF Type II slot.
Does this mean that it has to have a type II CF card?
This page http://www.compactflash.org/faqs/faq.htm#What_is says that the
only difference between the two types is the cards thickness - Type I =
3.3mm. Type II = 5mm, and that the electrical interface is identical.
Which as far as I can see suggests that the Slot on the HX4700 should
accommodate either type, but will a Type I work ok with the HX4700?
Sorry if this seems a bit of a stupid question but I don't want to end up
sending off for the wrong card and having the hassle of sending it back etc

Yes, a Type II slot will accept either Type I or Type II. Most CF memory
cards are Type I. Microdrives, are little hard drives in CF format are
generally Type II. They are much cheaper, come in larger capacities and
since they are mechanical platters, take more power.

Thanks for your help folks. I've sent off for a 1Gb PNY type II card, that
should do the job.
