EDIT: Added links to newegg for parts.

Hi, this is my first experience building a computer, so if you could help me out, that'd be great.
I intend this computer to be able to video editing, and a slim chance (20%) of being a gaming computer. I do have overclocking as an idea in hand. Here's what i came up with for parts(all are from newegg):

Case: $70 ENERMAX Chakra ECA3052BS Black SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16811124116

CPU: $218 Update Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6400 - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819115004

HDD: $0 (I'm pulling this from my old computer) Samsung SP1604N--its IDE interface

Case Fans (x2): $6 Rosewill RFA120L-W 120mm 4 White LEDs LED Case Fan - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16835200008

Ram: $130 G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820231098

Mobo: $123 GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813128012

PSU: $60 COOLMAX CP-500T EPS12V 500W Power Supply - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817159040

DVD: $0 (im pulling this from my old computer) HP DVD640

GPU: $140 SAPPHIRE 100199L Radeon X1950GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814102034

CPU Fan: $45 Thermaltake CL-P0114 120mm CPU Cooler - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16835106061

ATA Controller: $10 Rosewill RC-200 PCI IDE Silicon Image RAID (0/1/0+1) Host Controller Card - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16816132004

There's a $20 mail in rebate for the psu and $30 mail in rebate for hte gpu, so the total price after rebates and before shipping is:

Subtotal: $751.91

Couple of notes: I have the ATA controller there because I heard if you have the hdd and the dvd controller on the same channel, one of the two devices will determine which. speed the channel runs at, and could lower hdd speed dramatically.

The psu is a little worrisome, I don't know if thats a good brand, but it got good reviews. Its got 33A on the 12V rail, and the x1950gt requires 30A, im wondering if that's enough "headroom". Also, does it have all the connectors I'll need?

Im a little worried about the ram, is that a good brand? It got good reviews.

And does anyone know if the cpu fan will fit in my case? I don't know how many of you guys own that particular case.....

Thanks in advance.

Consider this instead, it has a more powerful GPU and the CPU is almost the same as the E6400, plus you can use your old DVD burner/HDD, get a good PSU, and a 8800GTS instead of the X1950, add fans/HSF if you think you need it, but unless you overclock I don't think you will. Incase you're wondering the reason im pointing you to AMD direction is because if you're on a budget AMD seems like the better choice (Intel holds the performance crown as you may know)

(Plus you get a free copy of Rainbow Six Vegas  so you can start gaming)

My dad won't approve of such a costly gpu, he's kinda complaining about my current one...even if the overall cost is kept low.

And I really prefer Intel Core 2 Duos...

Nice find with the ram tho, thanks.

And psu is on the expensive side. Is the Coolmax good quality? I have no idea.

He needs to understand that the GPU is more important than the CPU itself, I could put a C2D system for you now, but it's gonna be a few bucks more expensive to match performace, right now AMD is the best option for tight budgets.

Im telling you, the 8800GTS will kill the X1950GT on anything that you do, it's always better to spend less on the CPU and more on GPU if you're going to game. (unless you're not on a budget)

And it's better to pay a bit more for a PSU now than getting your system fried later on. I don't think coolmax is too good, but don't take my word on it.

My first and foremost priority is a comptuer that can video edit and just has good overall computing power, not game. I do not plan on gaming intensively, if and when I do game, either.

Well would you rather pay $120 now and not have to buy another GPU for 2-3 years or so, or buy the X1950GT and replacing it in 1-1.5 years?
