Hey all ,just installed FC6 and I thought that it would automatically install brivers for my printer, my Wireless linksys w/ SRX technology and nothing, just dissapointed. I Formatted my windows just to try it, now I want to go back. Thats where the problems comes in play. While inserting my windows xp pro disc in, the computer boots up from it, says thats its scanning for my hadware. and just stops, the screen remains black. tried installing ME it says that the disc needs to be formatted something OS/2 deleted manually. How do I format my disc so that I can install windows again?? My guess is that the linux kernel Gnome or something of that sort is whats disabling me to install my XP??
Any ideas?? how to I format my disk ??

FC6 is experiemental it's not for the public.

The problem is cause by windows, not linux.

Windoze is BROKEN

Boot from the 1st Linux install disk type in : linux rescue

at the boot prompt

Follow the prompts until it drops you to a shell.

When you get to a shell run:

[code:1:c53457493b]
fdisk /dev/hda # if you have a PATA IDE disk

fdisk /dev/sda # if you have an SATA IDE disk
[/code:1:c53457493b]

Delete all the partitions.

You should now be able to install XP.

I would recommend using 50% of your disk for XP and the other 50% for FC5 or Ubuntu.

So did you installed FC5?

Either way I recommend dual booting.

:-D

PS The Wireless fiasco can be blamed on the manufacturers of wireless chipsets because they make it almost impossible to write drivers for their hardware.

I was also readinf reviews and how tos, it say to boot up xp
Boot form xp->recovery console->fixmbr.
NOW my xp disk only boots until it says scanning hardware configuration, then after that, nothing proceeds. its just a black screen.
So your saying go into FC5 rescue mode and type in
fdisk/dev/hda#
How will I know that it will format the partitions??
Its just frustrating cuz I spent hours trying to figure out what in the Hell is wrong.
What else should I do if this method fails??
Ive tried booting from the Xp disc but all fails.
What should I do.
Id really appreciated if you explained it to me stp-by-step. I now that I'm a pain in the ass, but the only way I can learn is from the Experts like you.
Plez help me out here :?

Both SATA and PATA are IDE.

Just boot from the Linux install DVD type in

linux rescue @ the boot: prompt

answer the questions

go thru the process

it will go into a shell

when you get to the shell

If you have a PATA IDE disk using 80pin flat ribbon cables:

[code:1:ba53299c10]
fdisk /dev/hda
[/code:1:ba53299c10]

press d then 1
press d then 2

and so on to delete the partitions

if you have an SATA IDE disk using 7pin serial cables:

[code:1:ba53299c10]
fdisk /dev/sda
[/code:1:ba53299c10]

and repeat to delete the partitions

so after i enter the code and pressed enter it says the kernel could not be found :!: This is really starting to piss me off, Im better off just buying a new HD an throwin away my current one. I think I get it fater typing in
fdisk /dev/hda then after the "a" i type d and 1 and press enter??
I'm using the libraries internet so Im just hoping that I can get this done by tonight.
Is there any other way of formating by partitions??

just let know How do I format my HD and totally delete GRUB installer freom my HD so that I can install XP. This is giving me hell right now I wish I had never tried FC5. Its just giving me a splittin' hedake
what about
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1
I saw this code on the linux forums and it says that this can toatlly format the HD in order to install XP.
Anything else, or is that the only way to delete linux and its GRUB loader??

That dd command will wipe out the boot sector on your drive.

It may do the trick.

Theoretically you can dd the entire drive to wipe it clean.

Again windows is broken.

Please do not attribute this to Linux.

Take a deep breath and listen to him!!!! You need to delete all HD partition information from either FDISK(like he said) OR go into the partitioning part during your FC5 install(this program is called disk druid) and remove all disk partitions.... Once your hard drive has no linux partitions on it Windoz will be able to install....
