on april 9th the amd x2 6000+ will be at $238
source: http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-2041-view-Amd-next-price-drop-Fixed-price.html

on april 22nd the intel core 2 duo e6600 is priced at $224

in my opinion im a loyal amd user and i recommend the amd x2 cuz its AMD for crying out loud lol but my friend would love to hear your guys opinion

He had some questions
- Would the Intel core2duo overclock better then the amd x2 6000?
- Which one is faster?
- Which one is more upgradeable for future reference the socket 775 or socket am2
-Which one runs at a cooler speed stock? what does the core2duo or x2 6000+ idle at? and what at temp at high load?

also he wanted me to ask you to help him recommend parts for a $800 gaming computer using the new cpu prices

and no i dont know anything about computers anymore because i withdrew myself from the industry to able to help my friend and im now using a 800 mhz p3 lollll dont hate!

Definitely. The 6000+ is already clocked to within an inch of its life from the factory. Many get up to 3.4+ GHz out of the e6600.

The e6600 is a little bit faster than the 6000+ at stock speeds. The AMD will win a few benchmarks though. Once you OC, the Intel just dominates.

This one is tough to answer. Socket AM2 is almost done. The good news there is that AMD's next CPUs, using sockets AM2+ and AM3, are supposed to work in socket AM2 with a couple of power management features disabled and the lack of the next rev of hypertransport. LGA775 is probably going to be around a year or two more. Intel's 45nm C2D rev due in Q4 is supposed to use LGA775. Their next generation processor, Nehalem, will need a new socket. Intel's supposed price list for Q3 has some raging bargains like a quad core for $266.

The e6600 dissipates about half the power the AMD does, and runs cooler.

Did you see the 6000+ has already lost $140 off its price on newegg in the last week? From 459 to 319 last I checked.
