Frys sells it for $150 with a mobo, and I'm sure that package will soon go down to the $120 that the x24200+ is at. The prices will keep getting cheaper and cheaper, obviously, and one store will always have it cheaper than the store you bought it from a day after you buy it.

He said he was upgrading from a 2700+ t-bred which is an athlon xp. Yea he is definitely due for an upgrade.
Sorry, I still need more coffee to read straight this morning...
Based on that then, this is one of the few times an AsRock board could make sense.

Absolutely.
But now if we do that, then there is the cost of DDR2 ram and a PCI-E videocard to consider as well as the mobo upgrade...

thats whats killing me on the upgrade...memory and gfx card....and i refuse to buy a card until amdti and nvidia show us their new stuff....

even if the 8600gt isn't the bomb it'll knock the prices down on a lot of things....and amd's offerings are going to drop x1900 prices to 100 bucks.

I really want a 8800GTS 320Meg version...but 300 is 2 much...the price is only that high because AMD doesn't have a mid range DX10 competitor...

when it hits 230...then it'll be a steal..
