Well aren't they dropping all C2D prices in late April? I mean the E6600 would be around that price and most of the benchmarks show E6400 comparable with 6000+.

eh. its cool to know, but i'm not sure it merited its own thread... what is there to discuss?

Dont forget your free mobo dude, although its now outta stock and I cannot even see the mobo 8O

Benchmarks are nothing, most of the places that do it are biased, even some of the benchmarking programs show a higher score when they're actually slower. But oh well, not much we can do.

and in a year, it will be $50 bucks.... whats your point?

Reply to CompTIA_Rep

$50 as a "buy it now" on eBay. Sellers will begin bidding at 9.99. :D

What was that again? AMD = ALL MOST DEAD,!!! lol their lost and trying to find their way back.Dont get me wrong,I was with AMD for years, but both of my x6800 setups beat anything that AMD has to offer.Even my ol'ladys e6300 thats OCed to 2.93 will beat any AMD setup. Its going to take them awhile to catch up,if ever. So go waist your money. It would be better spent on a e6850.

Reply to stan116

Don't buy it now, you'll be kicking yourself in 3 months' time when they drop the price another 50%

I might take you up on that offer when my processor, board, and ram come in this week...

Reply to ProdigyMS

Problem is, that chip won't oc at all beyond 3ghz (perhaps 3.2 tops) and it still only can compete with the e6600 which shall be cheaper in a few weeks, I say dump that chip for either the 5200 and oc that (roughly $80 less once newegg drops the price, kinda weird how they raised it instead 8O ), or just get a conroe (or you could do the smart move and wait to see what amd has in store with k10)

Reply to miro84

I'd have to disagree. I personally favor the 5200 as my favorite am2 cpu, since it has the full cache is only $160 on most sites now (just give newegg a day or two to fix that)

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

If you have an am2 system it might be worth it, but really I'd say save the dough and get a new quad core system in quarter 3.

Reply to LAN_deRf_HA

The only problem I have with the 6000, is that the e6600 still beats it in some applications or at least ties with it, and will be just $200, which makes it even harder to justify. That's why I prefer the 5200, because if you already have an am2 mobo and have to get something with less performance, why pay more for it?

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

Quad core for what? No game's going to be using it for awhile, same with the operating systems. Not even one game that I know of fully utilizes dual-core... Quad core will be a waste of money, I still think that dual-core is, but that's all they make now. Soon it will be 64 cores! How awesome would it be for 63 cores to sit there and do nothing the whole time? LOL

For what? Well for one thing the penryn quads are going to be as cheap as dual cores because of 45nm technology, and then also more software is becoming multithreaded by the day, just take a look at games like supreme commander, or even an old game like half life 2 that uses the second core in a dual core for physx calculations, which takes the stress of the gpu significantly

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

Never seen those articles, but those games will run just fine on a dual-core AMD 6000+. I don't see the point of spending $800+ on a processor, that will later be phased out and will have tons of price cuts just like intel and amd are doing right now on their dual cores. The only time I think I'll buy them is when dual-core is phased out.

Reply to ProdigyMS

Hi Prodigy welcome to the year 2007.

Dual-Core supported games in General Gaming forum

Stalker recommends at least E6400 or X2 4200+ and Company of Heroes supports dual-core.
Supreme Commander, Hellgate London and future version for Microsoft Flight Simulator have multi-core support.

Don't forget all the video/audio encoding software as well.

ProdigyMS:this is what I was talking about, plenty of stuff is already multithreaded, and so will be future software

Kinda bugs me though how intel can't create a native quad, so they are simply adding hyperthreading again and expecting people won't notice the difference between their octo core and montreal

Jesus_My_Saviour: Personally, I've learned not to trust overclockers.com on amd opinionated things, because they have shown themselves to be pretty intel sided, so they'll just say whatever, and don't forget it's just an opinion, it's not written in stone yet. My guess is that perhaps it will drop a few dollars, but it's unlikely, because the retailers want to make money, it really biols down to whether amd will sell the chip at a cheaper price to them or not, because they generally just have a set margin between their price and amd's price so that they will make a profit 8)

Either you're stubborn or very poor. My opteron, even at 3.1, struggles in Supreme Commander when the unit count goes up or there are more than 3 ai running about.... to play these upcoming games to full potential you really will need a quad core.

I'm not that poor. I built a gaming machine about 2 years ago for $1600

Now I just spent $700 to upgrade it. Yeah a lot of games say they support dual-core, but they don't fully utilize it. I had an AMD 3700+ San Diego, later on I put in a 4600+, and seen no difference in the FPS of FEAR... or maybe it was just me....

Reply to ProdigyMS

Seems like you yourself a fanboy, so I don't see how you could criticize intel people. I personally have some prefference towards amd, but I'm neutral when it comes to recommending parts to people

It looks pretty good, but dump the 6000 for a 5200 or even the 3600 oem with a nice cooler and step up to a gtx from the gts, I think that would be the smart move. Another thing, throw that zaman into the trash, I stupidly bought the 9500 am2, and that was the worst mistake of my computer purchases yet. It's noisey, crappy at cooling, costs too much, and the list goes on and on. I would say get something like a scythe infinity, or better yet, a thermaltake bigwater 745, probably the cheapest worthwhile watercooling kit on the market if you get a brisbane 3600 instead, that should overclock to over 3ghz on water and still remain cool because it's 65nm and has less cache 8)

Really like the gateway monitor, I must say I was impressed with it, but I don't have the money for one, so what do you think on this monitor I'm going to buy instead?

When is the price dropping for the intels? I haven't seen anything about them dropping more until you just said it. Got a link or a tentative date at all?

Reply to RamboMadCow

On the 22nd, so just 2 weeks from now, I thought that was common knowledge

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

It might have been common knowledge. I don't get to keep totally up to date with price cuts and what not since I work 2 jobs, school, and a gf. I do my best though. I can't remember if you gave a tentative price for it so I'll go read again after I post. If you didn't post a possible price, has intel released an idea of what it might price it at?

Edit: It looks like you did. $200 Looks like that will be coming into my price range very soon. Thanks again for the update.

I'll second that

Yeah, at least provide a link to the product page. Or an even better idea, post in one of the already existing threads dedicated to price cuts that happened today.

Reply to TechnologyCoordinator

Even if it does drop in price, how much do you think it would drop at most? I'd say $10-$20, nothing real special, not like how the e6700 is dropping $200 and will kill amd (and I'm an amd user in all my builds, so just to let you know I'm not an intel fanboy saying htis) because none of their chips can keep up with it it's so cheap. Whether people will still be able to justify buying an amd or the x6800, well, there's always going to be people how just buy things for the name, and also plenty of people out there with am2 boards already looking for a cheap upgrade

Actually, there's been some stalker that's just been following him around and one starring him for every comment, either that, or some mod can set it up so he automatically gets one starred on every comment. I gave him a 5 to balance it out a bit since I didn't see anything false about the comment, but someone else one starred him too, so eitiher people apparently are really mad at him now, or that stalker decided to bring friends this time

Err, sorry to say, but the way to fall for flame bait is to flame, and I don't think I've even done anything close to flaming. Some of the things I've said or will say are harsh, but that's just the way I am.

I have gotten t the point that I don't do recommendations for people nor to I care if they are an AMD fan or an Intel fan. It doesn't affect me, nor does it bother me.

I'll do one here and there but that's not what I do anymore. Ask around to see what I do if you are actually interested in having a discussion about this.

I'm of the same opinion that this is a place to help people and we should do our best in this regard but when it comes to the end of the day, I'm not buying, so I really don't care if the person follows my advice or not.

I laugh at people that call me a fanboy... I like both companies equally, but it seems AMD really needs help with money right now. If they go under, then Intel is the only place to look to, that means they will be able to make their own prices. There will be no other competitor besides apple, but I don't think apple cares that much about windows that they will start competing against intel. And this is part of the reason why I went with AMD this upgrade, and the last build. The other reason is that they were cheaper and performed just as well if not better (especially better than the netburst cpus) than Intel's similar priced CPUs.

If you think I'm a fanboy, whatever then, I know what I know, and I know I'm not a fanboy.

Reply to ProdigyMS

apple uses intel chips, so they are not competing with them.
