I have Windows XP x64 edition, and have reinstalled it a couple times for clean preformance, and recently on my fresh install, Ive attempted to play Counterstrike:Source (as usual) and Oblivion.....They keep freezing in mid-game! WTF. I have never had this problem before and have almost identical software as before.....but it seems there is an underlining problem....Im a Counterstrike addict, and as far as im aware there are not any 'patches or gum' to kick the habbit, I NEED my fill!
Ill play in my fav. server, like normal, and all of a sudden, they game will freeze! Same thing with oblivion, i have installed the new drivers from Nvidia, does anybody know if this is possibly the problem or if its something else?! I REALLY REALLY need a response! Thanks!
(My Current Specs are: AMD 64 3400+, 6800 128MB(APG =O), 1GB of PC2700 RAM, 160GB HD, ect ect)
You really dont need to reinstall windows that much unless your one of those that doesnt run an anti-virus or spyware and loves to visit porn pages. I have an install going on 3 years old now that still works just as fine as ever.
No i run 3 spyware/antivirus programs, and i like to reinstall windows to maintain preformance and clean off anything that i dont know of or use....so any recommendations for my problem?
try the origional drivers that came with the components. New drivers arent always the 'best' ones.
What are your temps running?
One suggestion so you dont have this problem, and I am being serious, dont reinstall soo much. If you keep your system clean from spyware and other bloat ware like toolbars and such, your system will stay clean and wont need to be reinstalled. Run a registry cleaner to get rid of any entries left over from uninstalls. I run Regseeker and never had a problem deleting all the entries it found.
yea, i do use a registry cleaner/'fixer' yes i think i shall attempt to roll back some of my drivers, particulary my Nvidia drivers, hopefully that will clear up any silly freezes from occuring, now i do use itunes while playin CounterStrike Source (gotta have my tunes =D) and always have, do you think that could possibly be conflicting?.....thanks for the response ya been most def. helpful, i tend to overlook the simple things! =O
Since it's freezing up in both games you can probably rule out any issues with either of the games. Have you checked device manager to see if anything is complaining? Good point about the drivers, unless they are the same ones you were using before I would try maybe downgrading a version or two to see if it makes any difference.
So i rolled back my drivers from what i had, i got really good FPS(more so then usual...) but it STILL froze! I also checked the device manager, nothing is conflicting or working incorrectly. AHH HELP!
Well, I know it will be frustrating but I would try another reinstall to see if it's a h/w or s/w problem. When you reinstall, try installing just the video and sound drivers, leave everything else broken. Try playing like that, I know it will suck, but just see if it still freezes. That could tell you if it is indeed a driver causing the problem.
Well, i just reinstalled, and i have pin-pointed that its a sound card driver problem, i uninstalled the driver, and NO problems, but i cant utilize my 5.1 set up =( (for music atleasat) to its a good bad situation, can anybody reccommend a utility to utilize my 5.1 setup??? I have an ASUS A8V Deluxe Mobo, and its an 8 channel onboard soundcard, which is pretty slammin, andi really want my Tunes to the fullest extent!
If this is the first time you've had an issue and you were using the same driver previously, then maybe there's something wrong with your motherboard? Seems weird that it would happen at the exact time you reinstalled Windows however. I'd try downloading the latest driver from the manufacturer of the sound chip instead of using the one from Asus. If you already tried that, then maybe try using the one from Asus instead of the new one. If neither works then contact Asus and see what they recommend. Or you could just get a cheap SB Audigy and fix the problem while getting better sound.
