Hello,

I have an e6700, a zalman 9500 fan, an EVGA 680i LT SLI mobo (A1 revision), 2 gigs of Corsair Dominator PC-6400. What can I OC to and still run stable? Sorry to sound like a noob, but I just upgraded from an AMD X2, so I am new to OC'ing a C2D.

Thanks!

well with a 10x multi i think the only thing to hold you back will be temps... what ram speed? I mean at 400fsb you are at 4ghz lol. I'm at 458fsb but on the e6300. As long as your board and ram can handle it, temps are only thing to watch. Aim for AT LEAST a 1ghz OC

In the bios, it is stock at 1066 fsb, so what would I change that to lets say if I wanted to get an OC of 3.0 at like an 8 or 9 multiplier?

dont look at the 1066 fsb thats yur bus x 4. Look at the cpu bus which is 266. You want to set your ram speed to pc4200 (533mhz /2= 266= 1:1 with cpu bus). Now when you increase the 266 to say, 300- depending if you drop yur milt back or not, thats what you get. Just do some math and see what you want to aim for.

perhaps- but if you run it at like 2:3 or 4:5 and a faster speed, you might actually get less performance or at least not as much as you are expecting because it has to wait a cycle, etc bc its not 1:1. Drop yur multi back then- thats what i was telling you- do a lil math and see what u get

Ok, so if I was to leave it as a 1:1, put the cpu bus to 400, leave it as 800mhz for the ram, and put the multiplier to 8, would that work?

yes, but you dont leave the ram at 800 mhz. You arent getting the concept of 1:1---- if it is 1:1 then you set yur ram at 266mhz (533 pc4200) becuase that is the same as your cpu default bus. Now when you raise the fsb, the ram AND the cpu bus raise at the same time. So if your mult is 8 and yur fsb is 400, your ram is raised to 800mhz and your frequency is 3.2ghz.

no, you dont "set" the ram to 400. You set the ram to 266 becuase this is the same as your cpu bus which is 266 (266x4=1066) Ok, now raise the cpu bus from 266 up to 400 incrementally. Your ram will go from 266 (pc4200) to 400 (pc6400) because of the 1:1 change in fsb. I dont know how else to explain it or tell you what to do any other way than i already have about 3 times lol.
