Windows XP services wont start

Edit: I'm having problems reinstalling windows, when the setup reaches 'installing devices' 34 minutes remaining it hangs and doesnt go any further is there a way to remedy this?

Also, is there any way to run system restore from setup? I managed to get the exe file open, but when I select a restore point it doesnt restore to it.

Sounds virus related to me. A buddy of mine actually called me last night with similar symptoms. I'm going to look at his after work tonight.

So you boot into windows and you see no task bar? Can you get the task manager to come up (Ctrl+Alt+Del)? If you can, see if explorer.exe is running. If not, click file - New Task (Run) and type explorer.exe. This should bring your task bar back.

I did a repair install so I wouldnt loose my settings etc, but I'm having problems with the setup. I've edited my first post with the problems.
