it may work ok
but you might run into crashes or reboots.
then again you might not.
the worst thing that can happen is it will burn something up.
though the 76gt doesnt require a lot of power.
its just up too you.
you should be able to get a psu that will work fine for
around 30$ or so.
We need PSU info before we can answer those questions. Look at the sticker on the PSU and give us the brand name and model number, and how many amps it states under the 12v rail.
Thats not a PSU, more like a POS. If you experience reboots or crashes, then definitely get a higher power PSU. One other thing to consider, is what type of CPU are you running? If its a dual core or higher power single core, then a new PSU is in order.
You can try it, but if the fan on the PSU starts to spin up, then most likely you're pushing it near its limits.
I had one of those in my Compaq, stock. When i ordered my 7600gt, the Hipro came out and a SeaSonic went in.
I had the same concern when I bought my X1600Xt a year ago. I also had a 300 W PSU and the specs said it needed a 350W.
I asked Sapphire about it and they told me it should be fine on a 300W as long as I wasn't running additional drives and taxing the PSU otherwise.
I have a DVD dive, a DVD RW and the other basics a PC needs to run.
I have had no issues at all in the year I've had it and play HL2, Garcry, Painkiller and COD 2. All of which are pretty intense games relatively speaking. You sound like the same kind of gamer with a modest system so I wouldn't worry too much. The 7600 Gt has similar, low power requirements.
