E6600 @ 3.06GHz
CPU-Z

Prior to overclocking I didnt have this problem, but now when playing DoD:S I get this laggy effect at times, every 20 seconds or so it seems to get laggy (but ping is fine). What might this be caused by and how can I fix it?

Also should I leave my timings at 5-6-6-15? or can I lower them, and if so, to what?

Some more information is required, what are the rest or your systems specs and also what are your voltage settings and temps? Did you test for stability for 12+ hours running two instances of prime95? In short if your system cant handle your OC (I.E. your power supply in most cases) and if you temps are bad and the system is instable then yes you could be having problems and getting the lag effects from that.

Asus P5B bios 0806
xfx 7900GT @stock settings
Corsair 2GB 800, rating of 5-5-5-12
600W OCZ GameXStream PSU
250GB Seagate barracuda
160GB WD

Ran orthos for 12 hours, no errors
ran prime for about 12 hours, no errors

Zalman 9700LED cooling CPU, temps are fine (mid 30s idle, low 50s load)

All voltage settings are auto except Vcore i raised to 1.350
bios only allows Vcore, RAM voltage, and FSB voltage to be altered.

Think I should drop the RAM timings down to 5-5-5-12?

K, your system looks fine. You may want to run memtest86 and if it passes on your current speed settings the lower your timings and retest for stability with prime and/or orthos and then run memtest again. Always check and recheck! Once you get your timings as low as you can go and your system is perfectly stable you should then make sure your OS is perfectly clean and defragged. Note that you may need to raise mem and FSB voltage at some point during this (manual settings are generally always better anyways) You may also want to look at wusy's guide on here for C2D OC'ing to check and make sure you have everything you need turned on and off. I dont have time to get very detail right now as I have class in about 5 min and apologize, but hopefully someone else can help out here and I can try to check back later. Hope this helps even though its all mixed around and maybe a bit confusing.

It's possible that something that is 'incomplete' could cause these kinds of problems. I experienced something similar. I've got a E4300 and had it clocked to 2.7Ghz and it lagged and stuttered at times in games (Worse than my A64 3800+). Then I clocked it up to 2.97 and everything smoothed out a lot.

It might have had something with my memory running under spec maybe. That's the nearest guess I have.

When you bumped it up to 2.9 did you also increase the vcore?

I recently put the RAM timings at their listed spec of 5-5-5-12 and am running orthos. If I still get the lag, not sure what the next step will be, maybe increasing FSB voltage?

If you check with CPU-Z does your video card show 16X?

I had to bump vcore by 0.05 to get from 2.4 to 2.6 but did not have to bump it to get to 2.7 or 2.97.

it probably doesnt have anything to do with your timings as much as it does the clockspeed of your ram... if that is the case, experiment with different memory dividers if you have to

the only other thing i can think of is that your psu might not be good enough to handle the overclocking, sometimes when you overclock something the psu has to stall the system to supply enough power to the overclocked hardware, i get this from time to time, it might also be that your voltage isnt high enough so the overclock is somewhat unstable

those are just some scenarios ive experienced
