Today we got the first hand information that NVIDIA is going to launch new display card GeForce 7200GS to entry segment market. We thought its purpose is to replace 7100GS and its price is also lower than 7300GS.
The biggest renovation of 7200GS is that it adopted G72 graphic core. The former entry segment 7100GS used NV44 core and it also be said to use old bottles for new wine. While this time, the G72 core used by 7200GS should be the same with 7300GS, but there is no further details announced in the information.
The biggest advantage of G72 is that it used G7x structure so it can support DirectX9.0c, SM3.0 and HDR completely. In addition, CineFX version is 4.0, while the former 7100GS just support CineFX 3.0 and it cannot support FP16 HDR. We can say 7200GS is the real G7x series display card and 7100GS is the software upgrade version.
From the pictures we can see the public version 7200GS adopted Low-Profile design. Its circuit design is simple and just the cooling fins can satisfy its demands well. The frequency of public version 7200GS is 450/800 MHz improved largely than 7100GS 350/666MHz. The display card used DDR2 video memory, 64bit bit-width, 64MB or 128MB capacity and the adapters include one DVI, one D-sub and one S-Video.
7200GS answers for Vista design and it also support PureVideo but we didnt know the degree. We thought it cannot support some of the special optimize technologies but its support to H.264, VC-1, etc is very significative.
The main opponent of 7200GS is ATI X1050 and its advantage is the support to SM3.0 and HDR. The price was not announced but we thought it could be about 50$ and it still may be further depreciated.
