I came home from work and had a BSOD and when i reset my pc the second hard drive was not there. I tried several things till i came to the conclusion to switch sata cables. I used the ones that came with the hard drives as opposed to the ones that came with my mobo. The ones that came with the hard drive require me to use the regular power input and not the sata power. Strangely enough this worked out pretty good and now my pc posts faster because it takes less time to detect my hard drives.

My question is...is this due to a faulty sata cable or for some other reason?

I had somewhat of a similar experience. I hooked up a new SATA drive with the cables that shipped with my MOBO and the system refused to recognize the HDD. I switched to another, very similar SATA cable and the HDD worked nicely. Maybe there's a difference between SATA and eSATA cables?
