From my experience with an LCD monitor the best picture I get is when the vid card res and monitor res are the same. I'm looking at widescreen monitors and there doesn't seem to be an exact match. Is there a way to disable the scaling on a WS monitor and accept the black bars around the picture? The bigger monitors are 1680x1050, the res my vid card has which matches the game is 1600x1024 which would be pretty close.
Thanks

That's a very uncommon resolution.

The LCDs might be able to take a resoltion like that if you put them in a 1:1 ratio. Then you'd have black bars on top and bottom. Otherwise you'll have to deal with stretching the image vertically or setting a lower res and having the LCD upscale it.

What video card are you using? And what LCDs are you looking into?

I think that resolution is becoming more and more common with the widescreen monitors, Newegg has quite a few of them in the 20" range.

I have a eVGA 8800GTS and I'm looking into a Sceptre X20WG.

I figure it would be around 5% and 2.5% bars so that wouldn't be too bad at all, a good compromise for the ideal 1:1 mapping.

Thanks

I have a 22" Gateway widescreen that works in 1680x1050 native... model # is FPD2275W. I have it hooked up to my 8800gts 640 and there are times when the resolution doesnt match exactly with some games. I've never experienced any clarity issues at 1600x1024 with my monitor. It might expand it out a little bit, but you cant tell (mine shouldnt since I force 1:1). I run most games at 1600x1024 or 1680x1050 and I honestly cant tell a difference (with forced 1:1 aspect). I'm sure that if I stared REALLY hard for a while, I might see something... 8O

I have never heard of running in 1600x1024... are you guys sure you don't mean 1280x1024?

To answer the OPs question... few monitors will automatically put black bars. If the monitor doesn't support that, you can force it to center the image if you are using an nVidia card (via a setting in the drivers).

1600x1024 is correct, its for a widescreen monitor.

If I get the monitor it will show up then , cool !

NOT NECESSARILY!!!
Some of my games only run in 1600x1024. I think that GRAW runs in that on mine for some reason. But, most games do only allow you to see the native resolutions that your card/monitor support.

I've seen that WOW will run at 1680x1050 so I'm covered there.
Thanks

Maybe that's why I never heard of 1600x1024. I go straight to 1680x1050, and have never seen 1600x1024 as an option.
