Hi Im new to these forums but often visit the site. With the upcomming release of some new tech sucha s the R600 and AMD quad cores this year I am wondering when would be a good idea to update my system this year?

AMD64 Newcastle Skt754 3200+
1.5GB 3200 RAM
Sapphire X800 Pro 256MB AGP
Abit KV8 3rd Eye
240GB HD RAID 0
XFI Xtreme Music

I like to play games at there best and with this system things are starting to be strained. Sadly I would just upgrade my Graphics card but i have a AGP motherboard as far as I know dx10 cards wont be agp.

1. About the AGP from what I've seen there is a good chance that there will be a R600 AGP cards. ATI claimed at interview that it should work. (though your CPU could be a bottleneck for the card)

2. You should upgrade when your system just isn't enough. If you can play the games you like at good settings then wait. If not I would wait till the middle of May when CPU prices will drop (will happen on April 22) and there should be enough competition on the DX10 arena.

enjoy

thank you for the suggestions. Im in a pretty difficult spot witha skt754 will there be a memory bottleneck due to it being only single channel and would a cheap CPU upgrade (from ebay) if possible help?

I can in fairness still play games around medium still but i can see that things are starting to take a strain on it especially CPU, to which id probably go for a E6600 or a E6650 when they come out if there still up for release.

sure if you can find something good why not, good luck if not you can save cash up and get a nice C2D system these days for not too much :)
