I just encountered an interesting phenomenon, to me at least; perhaps
it is normal. On my setup (Magnavox MDV455, which is similar to the
Philips DVP642, including easy region hacks and Philips 30PF9946 LCD
HDTV) closed captions work fine when running in 480i. When switched
to 480p, no closed captions. The TV doesn't even respond to caption
on-off setting when running 480p. Subtitles, of course, when present,
work fine either way.

Is this a normal situation, or unique (or nearly so) to the Philips
TV?
