I currently have an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ and am thinking about upgrading to an X2 4400+. Would I be able to reuse the existing heatsink/fan unit or do I have to buy something else? Any suggestions?

thanks.

The heat sink from the 3500+ should be able to cool it okay, but if you get a retail version it comes with the HSF.

If it's the socket 939 version, it may come with the good heatpiped HSF.

I had an Opteron 144 which stock was a 1.8 I had OC'd to 2.2. Original fan still cooled it.

Now I have an AMD 4000 stock 2.2 OC'd to 2.7. So basically FX speeds with the same fan.

I would recommend getting the arctic cooling freezer 64 just to be safe, it's dirt cheap
