WiFi Sync?

Hey all,

First I must say, this is a really helpfull source for PocketPC it seems.
Thank you all for answering and be helpfull! I do have some more questions,
but I'll ask them one at a time since most likely I will figure out the
answers in time.

Here is my next: I was under the impression that the unit supports WiFi
sync. I set one up (Just like this one, a rx3115) before and it supported
qireless sync I believe. I downloaded ActiveSync 3.8 and even upgraded that
to ActiveSync 4 (Yes, the beta, build 4343). With neither it seems to sync
'WiFi style'. Now, I do not have the companion CD so I have not installed
anyhting from that. Could that be the issue? Is there a utility on the
companion CD I am missing? I am trying to get the CD but my buddy does not
know where it is and HP wants $30 for it. Seems hardly worth it unless there
is $30 worth of utilities on it? Maybe I can get an ISO from someone or just
the WiFi sync? Not trying to look for illegal software here, just the
companion CD that came with the iPAQ.

Bottom line, how do I WiFi sync?

Thanks a bunch!

the first thing you need to do is uninstall activesync 4 and re-install 3.8
!! Microsoft is discontinuing the ability to wifisync with activesync 4
(supposed security issues) so you will never be able to do it with 4.
once you have 3.8 re-installed, are you connected to your network via wifi,
(can you browse the web and send/receive email on your PPC) and is the pc
your trying to sync with on the same network? if yes, open activesync on
the desktop, click File > Connection Settings and make sure there is a check
next to "Allow Network (ethernet) ...."
assuming you have already established a partnership between the pc and ppc
via usb (yes, you have to have a partnership first before wireless syncing)
you should be able to open activesync on the ppc and click "sync" and it
"should" connect. if you have problems you might also want to download a
little free app called "pocket host" , install it and enter the info for
your desktop machine, it will help activesync find your machine on the
network

good luck.

Can confirm that ActiveSync 4.0 does not support Wi-Fi sync. And unless you
have a WM5.0 device offers nothing new, or above ActiveSync 3.8.

You may want to download vxUtil from www.cam.com it's a free program and may
help in setting up your system. It sounds to me as if you may not have
NetBIOS enabled over TCP/IP on your PC. The PocketPC must be able to ping
your PC by name, to activesync.
