Ok, so my rig is beggining to act VERY strange lately, and it's really bugging me. I'm convinced that a major part of my problem is the power source not being strong enough to power it all up, but the thing is that I never had this problem with these same parts just a week ago. The only thing done since was I had reformatted my computer, split the partition giving one partition devoted to Vista, then wondering if this is what caused my problem I merged the two partitions again. Where my cpu gets involved is, I've been told the reason I've been having so many problems in game and with multicolored static pixels on black screens was from my psu not powering everything up enough (specs below if you want to verify this). It sounds logical, but I went a bit deeper and took a few pictures of my computer's performance and processes being ran, and they REALLY don't add up. It SEEMS that there are SOO many other tedious and killer processes being ran hidden, however I've had 0 problems with any kind of adware or spyware, and have done nothing risky. Not to mention I didn't reformat not too long ago. From the pics below, you can see that I'm using 70%+ of my computer, when running no program bigger than firefox w/ 3 tabs! Check pics and specs below.

SPECS:
2.75GB DDRAM
AMD 3800+ x64
BFG 7900 GT OC edition
XEON 450W PSU @ 18v on the 12v rail

TEMP:
CPU: 51*
System: 36*
GPU: 55*

Can it be that I just need to reformat my computer again, and maybe that'll get rid of any possible hidden processes being ran? Thanks everyone!

From what I've heard, the power supply unit being inadequate will deal with stability issues, rather then not being able to get things powered up.

In your picture, looks like Firefox is being a pest. Move over to Opera and shatter the Fox's eardrums. :P

Hit the Windows button, type "msconfig" into the search bar. Go to start-up programs and take off of there what doesn't need to be used.

Doesn't look like anything other then Firefox is being a bother. When I had my 933mhz Pentium 3 I had to quit using it because each time I went to a new page it would freeze for a good ten seconds for no good reason. I'm thinking it's Firefox that's the root of your problems. If you switch over and are still having the problems, then it could yet be something else.

Try running CCleaner (you can download it here) and use the scan and fix registry function. See if that does anything to free up some power. Don't forget to scan for spyware and viruses too.

ya, I know that firefox and bitlord are being little whores on the computer.. with firefox taking the cake, and ya, now sounds like a good time to stick w/ Opera :D Sounds like a bit of fun.

But the thing that throws me off is that I've ran so many more processes than just that before, including having a few games minimized, and it still would never come close to breaching that 80% or so. 100k is a bit much, but I've run so much more with such a smoother experience, so I'm pretty sure I have something extra going down.

As for cleaning it up, thx for the link provided. I'll give that a go real quick. If all else fails, I'm in no big fix and I can just reformat easily. I won't have to back up much of anything. Thanks again for the quick replies everyone :D

Firefox is locked up in the task manager screenshot. Something is wrong with the installation, or perhaps it's incompatible with a site on one of those tabs. The same used to happen to me in IE when I overclocked/undervolted memory too much. As I start a new IE process for each site, I just terminate the CPU-hogging one and see just one site close.

alright, thx for the info. Here's a bit of extra that I thought I'd throw in. A recent benchmark to see there is a "possibility" that it's a gpu or cpu problem, or psu or spyware or a mixture. Check it:

I also have the Benchmark Explorer that has much more indepth specs if anyone is really interested in looking at them, though I doubt you are xD.

Firefox uses that much memory because of web page caching. If you have tons of tabs open, too...well...that's not going to help.

ehh.. it was just three tabs. These forums, hotmail, and some audio forums.

that's about.. all I ever am at on the norm..
