PC doesnt load properly

When I turn my PC on, it starts to load as usual and gets to the Windows XP Home Edition screen with the blue bar at the bottom.

After that screen however, it just goes blank, and wont get to the logon screen. If i turn it off and on again, it works as usual.

Help?

When the bios screen comes up press F8 key. Select 'Last known good condition'. See if that loads fine. If that fails try loading into safe mode by pressing F8 key at boot. Uninstall any new software or updates that were installed. Reboot.
If all else fails try a repair install. You will need to reinstall all updates and possibly some software.
