Need help!
One of my hard disks failed to boot. The motor still runs but it just suddenly stopped booting up on me. I ended up using a new hard drive to install Windows but I need to salvage a lot of my work off the nonfunctional one. The HD isn't showing up on My Computer.

What can I do? Can someone point me to the right direction?

Does the drive show in the BIOS?

If so then try downloading the disc tools package from the drives manufacturer; e.g. Seagate/Maxtor, Hitachi/IBM, WesternDigital, Samsung.

Or you could try running an app like SpinRite to see if that helps.

There are others but try GUUUGULLL for them.

Flying-Q is right. First thing to do is to see whether the disk is being recognised by the BIOS. If it doesn't check master and slave setting on the disks or operate them in cable select mode, so you don't have to worry about that. Also try changing to the other IDE port. If this doesn't help try resetting the BIOS. First via software and if that don't help do the jumper reset.

If all this doesn't revive your disk, somethings wrong with the disk...

Stellar Phoenix FAT & NTFS data recovery software can be helpful.
Download the demo of this partition recovery utility, scan your hard drive and see it shows your data or not. If it is then get the full version to save.

Best of Luck
