Can anyone give me a quick list of the top of their head of which cheaper graphics cards can have their cards flashed to a better model ?

I.E. ;

6200 (non TC) can be flashed to 6600
6800LE can be flashed to 6800GT

X800GTO ^ 2 can be flashed to X850XT

etc.

Reason is im looking for a fairly cheapish graphics card off of ebay that I an flash to a better spec card to play HL2 on, really can't spend much money on this hence having to flash a cards BIOS.

Not all 6800's will flash successfuly to a GT.

Your best bet in AGP is probably a cheap sub-$100 X800 XL. It doesn't need to be flashed, it comes with a full 16 pipelines enabled, like it's X850 XT cousin.

No guesswork or finger-crossing.

Also, for $139 after rebates, you can get a new X1650 XT AGP on ebay... better than pretty much every other AGP card out there except the X1950 PRO.

Sorry, forgot to mention, I'm in the UK.

And I really don't have that much money to play with but will probably ending up getting a 7300GT / 7600GS or equivalent card.

If you can wait a little bit longer the release of the 8600 series and r600 release will drive the price down to the ground....it's been hard for me ,but I'm waiting   .P.S.The 7600gs or the 7600gt would be my bet.

Cheapest is £65.

Thing is so far my PC has only cost £80 to build.

Spec is:

Opteron 144
Foxcon mATX 6150-K8MA
1GB PC3200 RAM
Case
400w PSU
Old DVD RW
Old 160GB IDE HDD

But meh that's probably what I'll go with if I don't pick up a 6200 off of ebay for ~£20 just to see how this bios malarkey works :p

the igp on the 6150 prolly beats the 6200, don't see the point tbh.

If I managed to unlock the 6200 to 6600 it won't ;)

After a few mins of research I'll probably just get a 7600GS/7600GT.

Thanks for the help guys.

If it's down to those 2,7600gt hands down :D .Great card(very impressed with a friends BFG 7600gt oc) and from the way I'm understanding it the 8600 isn't to far off the path(Upgrade wise with the exeption of dx10 capability).gl :D
