Ok, so there's a thread alive and kicking about someone building a 10k machine (here).

That got me thinking; for some of our forum veterans, how would you spend $10,000? A single god-box? Xeon, C2D, FX, X2? A projector? 52" LCD? Both? SLI, x-Fire, or neither? NAS, DAS, SAN? SATA or SCSI?

RULES:

--> You must be at or below US$10,000 total.
--> You must use hardware available as of April 12, 2007 (No Penryn, Barcelona, agena, Non-EXX00, etc)
--> No responses such as, "I'd wait until XXXXX comes out"
--> You must post the cost for each component and a total cost

Most of all, this is a matter of PREFERENCE, not PERFORMANCE, so please NO FLAMING!

My godbox:

1x X6800 Overclocked to kingdom come ($1200)
2x Seagate Cheetah 15K.5 300GB SAS in RAID 0 ($1200 ea)
1x Intel SRCSAS18E PCI Express SATA / SAS - 256MB Cache ($700)
4x SATA 750GB Drive in RAID 5 ($310 ea)
2x BFG nVidia 8800 GTX 768MB w/Water Block ($800 ea)
2x mushkin 4GB(2 x 2GB) DDR2 DDR2 800 @ 4-3-3-10 ($460 ea)
1x GA-965p-DQ6 - I LOVE THIS BOARD - ($220)
1x SoundBlaster X-Fi Elite ($220)
1x Koolance EX2-750 ($250)
1x Thermaltake Armor ($180)
1x Thermaltake Toughpower 850W Modular ($260)
1x SAMSUNG 244t-BK Black 24" 6ms (GTG) ($700)
1x CPU Water-Block ($60)

TOTAL - $9,950

I chose the C2D over the Xeons because (1) I'd rather overclock myself and (2) I rarely find myself needing more CPU horsepower as it is.

SUMMARY
X6800 (Water-Cooled)
8GB RAM
600GB SAS in RAID 0
3TB (2.25 Available) SATA in RAID 5
2x8800GTX (Water-Cooled)
850W PSU

To be honest i can build what I'd be happy with for like 3-4k. But that's no fun for this thread so I won't elaborate. A e6600 with two 2 8800 gtx's in SLI, a nice 680sli board, and 4gb's of ram would please me plenty. Anything past that's overkill IMO. Oh yeah let's not forget 2 150gb raptor x's in raid 1.
