Hey guys, a couple of weeks ago I purchased a Sony KV-34HS420 (36" 4:3
Sony). Anyway, When viewing lo-res content in i1080 mode, the result is
black bars all around the image. Pressing 'screen' is supposed to help
by zooming in on the image. Unfortunately, the zoomed image is off
center (shifted to the right a bit). It's not horrible, but it's
noticable. This TV has no image size/horizontal position controls
available to the user. Is this a defect or do I just need a pro to come
up and tune it? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Bob

BTW SONY does have 34" 16X9 available currently. Also, depending on just how
far the raster is shifted from centre it may be within manufacturer specs.
My thought is there may be an adjustment within the technical setup
accessible only via the appropriate codes. Changing any of these parameters
may have unwanted effects in all display modes rather than specifically the
I-1080 you are asking about. The set being probably within manufacturer
warranty period you may want to have a SONY Authorized Servicer have a go at
it.

You (or someone else) is going to have to go into the service menu to
adjust the hpos. I go into my service menu occasionally to do some
tune ups, and if done carefully will be fine. It is possible to ruin
the set if you jack with some settings, however.

I would look again at the menus.

If I remember correctly, my 30" 16:9 Sony has adjustments for centering the
image. It is in the setup menu under "Video" I believe. I could be wrong
as it has been quite some time since I have been in those menus.

Hi Bud, how do I get to the service menu? And what should I be careful of?

Thanks,

Bob

Just a suggestion, if it is only a couple of weeks old, still under
manufacturer warranty, why not have a SONY Authorized Technician have a go
at fixing it? Why, because when the customer does go into the service only
menu and does mess up the settings that tends to void the warranty, per SONY
Corporation. Any Way, you can always have a go at it, may be a great
learning experience, IMHO

The menu I am talking about is not anything special, in fact the first time
I turned on the TV I *HAD* to go through the menu, it is a setup menu
intended to be run by the end user. No warranty voiding about it, its just
a menu to help setup your TV the way you want.
